The current world presents an antinomic panorama: on one hand, it embraces globalization and the free movement of goods and currency like never before; at the same time, it multiplies and fortifies walls that counter the narrative of open doors with nationalist discourses. Despite this, a hallmark of our time is the mobilization of human groups. We are at a nodal point of this phenomenon, where intolerance and discriminatory discourses are prevalent, and people are viewed with suspicion based on their culture, origin, skin color, class, and gender. Crossing borders speaks of geographical landscapes, social reconfigurations, frictions, and emotions.

This colloquium aims to reflect on the conceptual, political, and historical knots of border issues and the various manifestations of human mobility. It also seek to open a dialogue between continents involving academics, students, and civil society. The objective of the colloquium is to reflect from a comparative, socio-ethnographic, and multidisciplinary approach on the routes, agency processes, and the complexity of the spaces where people’s displacements occur in a transcontinental context.
