15-01-2024Between the sea and a hard place: Encounters with sub-Saharan African migration in Sfax in mid-2023Our doctoral student Michela Lovato has co-authored a research essay titled "Between the sea and a hard place: encounters with sub-Saharan African migration in Sfax in mid-2023" as part of the VILMOUV workshop. The essay was written in collaboration with David Brotherton (CUNY) and Nick Dines (Un. Ca' Foscari di Venezia) and is based on an ethnographic experience carried out in the city of Sfax in June. The essay sheds light on the challenges and aspirations of migrants in the region in the face of rising anti-migrant sentiments. It specifically focuses on migration mobility and urban spaces in Sfax.

The First NodesThe second phase of the Solroutes project is already underway, with the PhD Solroutes researchers settling in four established ethnographic antennae in Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Belgium and conducting the following fieldwork research activities:
